OptiMiser is designed to allow an auditor to generate
information using only the floor area of the house and utilities. This is possible because of the interaction
between the Conditioned Area and the Footprint, Stories and other dimensions
of the house described below.
- Conditioned Area < = > Footprint & Stories Initially the Conditioned Area, Footprint, and Stories are all connected using the relationship Conditioned Area = Footprint x Stories. Changing one of these parameters will affect the others accordingly. As soon as the user changes any of these three values directly, that label will change from Red to Black and that value will be considered "set". A "set" value will no longer be automatically updated when a related value is changed
- Footprint < = > Below Grade Area, Attic Area Changes in the Footprint will be reflected in the below grade and attic areas, until those values are set directly by the user.
- Footprint < = > Length, Width Initially the aspect ratio of the building is assumed to be one (aspect ratio = length over width) so that Length = Width = SQRT(Footprint). If the user modifies only the Length or only the Width the change is registered in the other via the relationship Footprint = Length x Width. If the Length and Width are both set by the user directly, then the area of the Footprint is adjusted using the same relationship.
- 2x (Length + Width) x Wall Height = > Wall Area Changes in any of the controls related to Footprint will be reflected in the above grade wall area using this formula, until overridden by the user
- 2x (Length + Width) x Basement Wall Height = > Basement Wall Area: Changes in any of the controls related to Footprint will be reflected in the wall area of the basement using this formula, until overridden by the user.
